As a member of the HR team, this role works within HR and alongside program management and agency employees to develop comprehensive safety programs, procedures and monitoring across the agency that support staff and volunteer safety.

Job Duties: 

  • Provides guidance on applicable OSHA regulations and requirements for compliance. Creates and provides written recommendations that suggest controls of workplace related safety hazards and exposures, considering agency trauma-informed guidelines.
  • Assists and advises safety committee with reducing the incidents of accidents, illness and injuries to staff.
  • Supports agency insurance processing with property incidents that require follow-through of documentation and recovery of damages. Identify areas of risk and potential liability.
  • Develops, modifies and delivers training programs and live-web-based safety awareness training using web tools.
  • Conducts safety and security research upon request of the COO and/or Executive Director and develops plans to address identified risks for staff and clients of the agency.
  • Assists the COO in providing leadership for employee programs; agency onboarding programs, workers compensation and safety, staff training and development, equity compliance, culture and social justice initiatives, and process improvement.
  • Performs inspections of agency sites for hazards, completing proper documentation and maintaining accurate records of safety inspections and repairs. Ensures that all sites have Personal Protective Equipment, spill kits, first-aid kits and other safety materials and supplies necessary to perform work safely.
  • Submits maintenance work order tickets for the Safety Committee making recommendations for equipment, signs, repairs, barriers and other modifications. Follows-up to completion.


  • High School diploma or General Education Degree (GED) and; 3 years working in an occupational safety role or service in the U.S. Military. Preference for Associate's or Bachelor's Degree in Occupational Safety and Health or Industrial Hygiene; or a related degree such as Criminal Justice, Engineering, Risk Management; Lean Six Sigma; OR-OSHA or other professional safety certifications.
  • Position requires an effective communicator of information and safety concepts in oral and written form, in a concise manner to small and large groups plus intermediate level computer and technical skills, including MS Office, databases, and a basic understanding of building and facilities operations.
  • Valid Oregon driver's license and insured vehicle available for use on the job; satisfactory driving record. Successful registration with the Child Care Division's Central Criminal Background Registry is required.
  • CPR/First-Aid Certification within 30 days of hire.

Physical Demands:

  • Required to frequently reach with hands and arms; regularly required to climb or balance; occasionally required to stand; walk; stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl.
  • Manual dexterity for handling equipment.
  • Regularly lift and/or move 50 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 100 pounds.
  • Specific vision abilities required by this job include color vision, distance vision, close vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.
