Help our Head Start program continue to thrive by becoming an on-call Teacher Substitute! 

The Substitute Teacher supports our Teachers in working with children to promote children's growth in the areas of social-emotional, physical, cognitive and language development. This is a non-benefited position, working up to 19 hours a week, with starting pay of $20.94/ hour for Associates Degree and $25.03 for a Bachelor's Degree. 

Minimum Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or General Education Degree (GED); a minimum of 2 years experience in early childhood programs; and CDA or 1 year certificate in Early Childhood Education.
  • **If qualifying with a CDA or 1-year certificate, must obtain an Associates degree in Early Childhood Education within 1 year of hire date. Non Early Childhood Education Degree must have at least 18 credits of Early Childhood Education within 1 year of hire date.

Essential Duties:

  • Provides for the development of children's cognitive skills, language and literacy as well as children's physical growth in both gross motor and fine motor skills. Works with team to ensure that each child receives developmental, sensory, medical, dental, mental health, nutritional, and behavioral screening/assessments and follow up services as required.
  • Implements weekly lesson plans, based on on-going observation records and assessment to suit the individual characteristics, strengths, and needs of each child, including 2 group times, free choice time, and gross motor/outside time.
  • Provides a safe environment with supervision of children at all times, consistently applying emergency procedures.
  • Follows procedures on releasing children. Rides bus to ensure safety of children on the bus.

Certificates, Licenses, Registration:

  • Registration with the Central Background Registry of the Child Care Division.
  • Valid Oregon Driver's License and insured vehicle available for use on the job or acceptable alternative.
  • Ability to obtain First Aid/CPR certification.
  • Ability to obtain a Food Handlers Card
  • No pre-employment drug test required - employees are only subject to drug test if they get into an on-the-job vehicular accident

Physical Demands:

  • Required to frequently reach with hands and arms; regularly required to climb or balance; occasionally required to stand; walk; stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl.
  • Regularly lift and/or move 10 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.
  • Physical ability to quickly evacuate children from the classroom in an emergency.
  • Manual dexterity for handling office equipment.
